Randy Small's Retirement Celebration
|
Everyone at Randy Small’s June 18th Retirement Party
agreed on one point. The City of Cleveland and Randy’s co-
workers were the big losers as Randy stepped aside after
twenty-five dedicated and celebrated years of service with
the Cleveland Police Department.
One by one, fellow officers and others expressed heartfelt
thanks to Randy and his family (particularly his mother) for
their life-enhancing experiences with Randy. Overwhelming
they agreed that Randy, a master diplomat, treated
everyone he met with respect, and in turn, earned respect
and admiration from all he came in contact with. Without
going into details, Randy was also given an A+ for working
so well under less than desirable conditions as the
department obviously went through the challenges of racial
acceptance. Randy was always one of the first to approach
new officers, introduce himself, and do his absolute best to
earn their friendship and respect, and alleviate any fears or
uncertainty they might have felt.
Truly, an Officer and a gentleman, Randy ignored and
crossed lines of race, gender, age, and socio-economic
status to bring justice to the citizens of Cleveland. Beyond
that, he has created a legacy that spreads far beyond the
city limits, and set a standard of excellence we can all be
proud of.
Randy is so well liked and respected that among the
“rewards” bestowed upon him was a trip for two to Cancun,
paid for by grateful associates at the Cleveland Police
Department.
Not one to be caught off guard, when it was Randy’s turn to
speak, he gave the credit right back to those who had given
it to him, including his family. His mother, and that very
special lady in his life, Valia Brown, both received special
mention and flowers. WAY TO GO RANDY!
