Willow Park Employee Speaks at
Ohio Health Care Convention
The Educational Foundation of the Ohio Health Care Association
hosted its annual convention and exposition April 18-21 in
Columbus, Ohio.  OHCA is a non-profit organization of health care
professionals providing quality residential services for the elderly,
convalescent and developmentally disabled.  This year’s focus
was to promote the profession-wide quality initiative called
“Quality First”, anchored in the Foundations for Quality which
encompass core values, concepts and performance excellence
criteria that results in quality outcomes.

Brenda Taylor, LPN/LMT and Director of Staff Development for
Willow Park Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, was chosen from
among over 250 applicants to speak at this year’s convention.
Just over 20% of the applications received by OHCA were
accepted to be included at the convention.  Brenda has been on
staff at Willow Park for 17 years.  Hired as charge nurse on the
Alzheimer’s unit, her passion for educating staff led to a position
as an instructor in the Nursing Assistant Training Program and a
nine-year stint in her current position.  She spoke on “Was it
Something I Said?”  This session combined training in the areas
of verbal communication and non-verbal behaviors with cultural
awareness and peaceful problem resolution.  The convention
drew over 3,000 attendees from Ohio’s 88 counties.

Mrs. Taylor is responsible for the on-going education and training
needs of Willow Park’s staff.  She is a firm believer that “The day
we cease to learn is the day we cease to live”.  She sees her job
as an integral part of the Quality First initiative and hopes to offer
community education sessions at Willow Park within the coming
months.  Says Taylor; “We see our role not only as a long-term
care facility, but as an educational resource for the community in
the areas of health and wellness”.  Holding a license from the
Ohio State Medical Board in the practice of massage, Brenda
served as massage therapist for the former WNBA Cleveland
Rockers.  A member of Mt. Zion of Oakwood Village, she is
married to Charles Taylor, Jr., owner/operator of  Charles Taylor
Funeral Home in East Cleveland, and has one son - Geoffrey, a
student at Kent State University.
