Deming, New Mexico – 12/16/2005 - Memorial Elementary School held its
school-wide spelling bee for fourth and fifth graders Wednesday in the school's
gymnasium. The winners were: Arthur Clark, 11, fourth place, fourth grade; Kenzie
Rinehart, 11, fifth place, fifth grade; Cori Soto, 9, third place, fourth grade; Elyssa
Camarena, 10, second place, fifth grade; and Michelle Ortiz, 10, first place, fifth
grade. These winners will advance to the district-wide spelling bee in January 2006.
Congratulations to all the winners, and especially our young friend Arthur Clark. In
addition to his spelling bee win, Arthur is in the school choir, and recently appeared
in a church program and earning the right to portray Jesus. Now THAT is a choice
role. Arthur’s accomplishments are notable because as part of a military family, he
has moved and changed schools four times during the past two years. In spite of
this disruptive schedule, he continues to keep up with school work. Arthur is the
son of William Clark and grandson of Arthur and Renee Clark.
