Honoring God, Creating Legacies By Henry Ford
|

Sunday, June 18th I was honored and privileged to participate in the program at the
historic Morning Star Baptist Church in Hickory, North Carolina. In a service that
paid tribute to fathers, acknowledged graduates, and remembered the legacy of
Eddie “James” Jones, I was happy to do my part to challenge and inspire those in
attendance.
In a church and a city that has witnessed the growth and contributions of people
like Community Leader Z. Ann Hoyle, Professor E. Patrick Johnson, Author Connie
Moncree Roland, and many others, it seemed only fitting that I would focus on the
new generation of graduates. Several high school and college graduates received
copies of the book, The Power of Association. High School graduates included
Bradley Ellison, Darrell Hunter, Shay Hewitt, Tiffany Scott, Christopher Sherrill,
Alicia Ussery, and Franeka Walker.
College graduates included Harriet Brown, Chasity Logan and Sylvia Ramseur.
Also receiving copies of The Power of Association were Ms. Arlea Hunter, for
outstanding community service; and Acting Pastor Millard Harris, for stepping
forward and providing excellent leadership at Morning Star.
The reception Dianne and I received was outstanding. Everyone we met at
Morning Star gave us a large serving of “Southern Hospitality.” Our sincere
prayers and best wishes go to the congregation at Morning Star. Our heartfelt
thanks to Pastor Emeritus Rev. Webster E. Lytle, Acting Pastor Rev. Millard Harris,
the entire leadership, staff, membership and visitors at Morning Star.
