"Where there is no vision, the people perish" - Proverbs 29:18
BDPA Cleveland Hears "The Message"
It doesn’t get much more challenging than
speaking to members of an organization that is
in large part responsible for ones growth.  That
is especially true when some of those same
people “knew you when.”  Such were the
circumstances as I addressed the Cleveland
Chapter of BDPA on June 17th.

At a program where I expected a lot of new faces
and prospective members, I found a majority of
familiar faces.  Fortunately, those familiar faces
were accompanied by inquisitive minds that were
seeking life-enhancing information.  What I
brought was not new, nor was it revolutionary,
but it was something that can be and is often
overlooked, misunderstood, or underrated.

The “something” that I brought was Success
through The Power of Association, a familiar
phrase, but a phrase re-energized by
increasingly challenging times, by newly
revealed endorsements of the book,
The Power
of Association
., and the opportunity to attend the
Cleveland area CIO Conference (
PRESS HERE).

My approximately thirty minute presentation
required quite a few “mental adjustments” to
relate to the more experienced audience
members that I encountered, as opposed to the
relatively “uninitiated” that I had expected.  I
shared the “value added” concept of being
involved in something larger than ones personal
vision. I related the growth I experienced by
accepting challenge.  I was (and I am) mindful
that promoting the concepts of involvement,
participation, and giving is more challenging
when speaking to those whose training and
careers are often characterized by a focus on
facts, figures, and bottom lines.

Regardless of my concerns, I apparently
touched the right chords, because in addition to
a rousing standing ovation, the after-program
sale of
The Power of Association set a sales
percentage record.  Over 50% of the program
attendees purchased the book.  That is even
better than it appears because several people
already had
The Power of Association in their
home library.  One gentleman had “worn his
original copy out” and another purchased books
for each of his two sons.

The good news was just beginning.  There are
plans now underway to make the message of
that evening available on YouTube.  That
process will be taken care of by BDPA
Cleveland, and I will keep you informed of its
availability.

So even though in my mind the task and the
challenge were great, so were the rewards.  I
suppose I should not be surprised at the
conclusion in the previous sentence.  It reads
much like a statement I would share with
someone else!
