CONGRATULATIONS TO The Honorable Marcia Fudge, Member of Congress |
CONGRATULATIONS to Marcia Fudge, newly elected Congresswoman of
Ohio’s 11th Congressional District. I first met Marcia in 1986 when she
delivered the keynote address at a program where I was honored as
Cleveland Chapter BDPA Member of The Year.
At that time as the Director of Personal Property Taxation for Cuyahoga
County, Marcia was straight-forward, displaying competence and
commitment, but doing so with humility, along with unusual warmth and
personality. Marcia shared a firm belief that “If you don’t do your best, it’s
just a reflection on you.” She advised the audience that for those who finally
reach the top, it’s important that they “build bridges” making it easier for the
next person.
From all I have heard and seen about Marcia Fudge in the years since that
program is that little has changed. She has just gotten better!
Congresswoman Fudge replaces the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones who
tragically passed away in 2008. Congresswoman Jones was widely
respected and loved and will be dearly missed. Jones was a school mate
and friend of my sister Jean, and given her dynamic personality, she easily
became a friend of mine.
Marcia Fudge was also a close friend and former assistant of the late
Congresswoman. With the persistence and grace Marcia is known for, she is
working through the pain of a personal loss that so many of us felt, and
seeking to fill an unimaginable void. Be assured that as with her
predecessors the late Congresswoman Jones, and the legendary retired
Congressman Louis Stokes, the citizens of Ohio’s 11th Congressional
District will continue to be extremely well-represented.
Please join us in praying that Congresswoman Fudge continues to be guided
by the wisdom and compassion that had been the hallmark of her long and
distinguished career.
